Engineering Good Practices

The engineering practices are centered around the following principles:
  • I focus on problem solving and improvement
  • I spend time with all the stakeholders to ensure quality work
  • I speak to the customer in his/her own language
Key Engineering Practices
  • Engineers are expensive. Don't waste their time on:
  1. ordering parts (other than engineered equipment)
  2. overseeing jobs (repairs)
  3. counting costs
  • Demand practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Set expectations up front (“We can afford to spend $100k to make this problem go away, otherwise we will live with it.)
  • Force engineers into the field (interact with process and maintenance)
  • Make design an interactive process with mechanical and process.
